(Solved) - Where is the Outlook Configuration file, and How to Change it
(7 posts)My problem is as follows.
Originally, I kept my Outlook personal folders file, Outlook.pst, in a server that required 'User Name' and 'Password'.
Unfortunately, the server die on me. But I was able to retreat the files from the hard disk, and placed the Outlook.pst in the local hard drive.
However, I could not redirect the Outlook to the new Outlook.pst location, even after several uninstall and reinstall of Outlook. Every time I opened Outlook, it will ask for the User name and Password to the server, since the server does not exist anymore, the log in will fail every time, and Outlook would close automatically, and gave out the error message: .. The set of folders could not be open ..
I have tried but without success by right clicking the 'Mail' method, etc. I was not able to disconnect the link between Outlook and the original location of the file by any methods I could find.
Could you please advise, which file can I modify and remove, so that I can uninstall and reinstall with a real fresh start. Does this have anything to do with the configuration of MS Exchange?
Thank you.
have you tried. open outlook > File > open > outlook data file>
browse to .pst file then it will show up under all mail folders. Simcity 4 deluxe edition patch.
Since Outlook did not received the correct User Name and Password to the no-longer-exist server where the outlook.pst was, Outlook will automatically turn off and not even let you any chance to do > File > open > ..
Therefore, I guess the only way is remove or reconfigure the Outlook instruction file(s) from outside of Outlook environment, but I don't know which ones they are.
By the way, I am using Outlook 2003 and Windows Server 2003.
Thank you.
Have you tried opening the Mail item in Control Panel (It's installed by the Outlook setup to configure accounts as an alternative to the Outlook menu) and removing the file there?
Thank you, it works now. As you suggested, I followed the following steps: Control Panel > right click and open Mail setup. The trick is to change the configuration in E-mail Accounts instead of Data Files. In the Data Files window there is no options to change the configuration that I needed to.
In the E-mail Accounts window, choose View or change existing e-mail accounts, and click Next.
Then, in the next E-mail Accounts window, click New Outlook Data File to add the location of the new file, and set it as the default file for Personal Folders. Then, I was able to delete the old path.
Thank you all for your help.
